Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reuse the Classico® jar for home canning?
No. A coating is applied at the glass plant to reduce scratching and scuffing. If scratched, the jar becomes weaker at this point and can more easily break. This would increase the risk of the jar breaking when used for canning. Also, the lighter weight of our current jar could make it unsafe for home canning.

How long can I keep this opened jar in my fridge?

Maximum 3-5 days as there are no preservatives in the sauce.

Does the 26 oz. stand for weight or volume?

The 26 oz. refers to weight. The markings on the side of the jar are approximate and we do not fill our jars based upon those markings. The jars are filled based upon the 26 oz. weight.

Can I freeze any leftover sauce?
Yes. The sauce can be removed from the jar, placed in a plastic food storage container and frozen for 2-3 months.

Which of the Classico® sauces are gluten-free?

All of the Classico® red and white sauces are gluten-free.

Is the sauce heat-packed or vacuum-packed?
The jars are hot-filled. As it cools, a vacuum seal is created.

Can I freeze the Alfredo sauces?
Yes. Although freezing and reheating the Alfredo sauces does compromise the sauce quality a bit. It is important to defrost the sauce slightly in the refrigerator, not at room temperature, and reheat in saucepan over low heat, with frequent stirring. When the sauce is first put into the saucepan after defrosting, it may appear curdled. This appearance will dissipate and the sauce will once again become smooth with frequent stirring over low heat. The sauce should NOT be reheated in jars or bags in microwave ovens as sauces tend to burn easily around the edges.
